The video starts out with a little boy trying to use the ‘force’ on different objects. He attempts to use the force on the family dog, an exercise bike, a doll, the washer and dryer, and his bowl of cereal. When his attempts to move the objects fail, he gives up. When the child’s father arrives home, the little boy decides to try the force one more time on his father’s car. To the amazement of the child, the car starts and the headlights flash. Unknown to the boy, his father started the car from inside the house with the remote. I would say that this advertisement accurately represents a 21st century two parent household. The father played along with the child by starting the car remotely, whereas the mother appeared to be a little tired of the Darth Vader act because she had been watching him doing it for most of the day.
Even though Darth Vader has been around for over 30 years, he is still well known among today’s households. I think this is because many of today’s parents grew up watching the Star Wars movies and due to the remakes and new episodes, their children are familiar with them as well.
